Welcome to the Skipton Civic Society

Founded in 1961, the Skipton Civic Society promotes high standards in planning, architecture and the environment of the North Yorkshire town. The group aims to educate the public in local geography, history, natural history and the architecture of Skipton. 

They work to secure preservation, protection and they develop exhibitions, publications and visits for the good of the town. The Skipton Civic Society is a a founding member of the Yorkshire and Humber Association of Civic Societies and a member of Civic Voice – the national charity for the civic movement in England. 

MEMBERSHIP

The membership year runs from January 1st to December 31st. 

Subscriptions are payable to Skipton-in-Craven Civic Society.

EVENTS

Information about events will be e-mailed to members. The Craven Herald newspaper and their Facebook page also feature information and articles about the activities they organise.

Some of these activities and events include:

  • Visits to other towns to view similar projects
  • Walks around beautiful local locations
  • Talks on the history of Skipton
  • Workshops and meeting to discuss and learn more about key topics
  • Quizzes on Skipton’s heritage

SUBSCRIPTIONS AND CHARGES 

Membership: Annual – £20 – 18-24 – free – Life – £100

Speaker Meetings: members – £3 – non-members £5 – under 25 – free
