DESCRIPTION:Bernard Herrman Psycho Suite\nMahler Adagietto from Symphony No. 5\nStrauss Duet-Concertino\nDebussy Danse sacrée et danse profane\nTippett Concerto for Double String Orchestra\nMariam Adam clarinet\nLinton Stephens bassoon\nSarah Paterson harp\nSkipton Building Society Camerata\nBen Crick conductor\nMariam Adam and Linton Stephens are the soloists in this concert of music relating to stories, cinema and dance.\nThey begin with two cinematic greats: the suite that Bernard Hermann made from his iconic soundtrack for the Hitchcock thriller Psycho, and the heart-rending slow movement of Mahler’s Fifth Symphony adopted by Luchino Visconti for his film Death in Venice.\nEx-principal bassoonist Linton Stephens returns with fellow Chineke! Orchestra clarinettist Mariam Adam as the soloists in the Duet-Concertino by Richard Strauss, a piece based loosely around the story of Beauty and the Beast.\nDance dominates the second half of the concert. Harpist Sarah Paterson takes the solo role in Debussy’s Danse sacrée et danse profane before the Camerata strings take centre stage in Tippett’s Concerto for Double String Orchestra, a tour de force that juxtaposes Elizabethan dance rhythms with jazz and blues.\n
